Here we have the back cover cover image for the new cover concept we discussed in the previous post. The idea is to keep it somewhat sketchy so that it will relate to the pencil drawings that are going to be surrounding it. However I think I rendered it out a bit more that I meant to. It was supposed to be a bit sketchier around the edges but the watercolour was going down so nicely on the hot press paper that I just couldn't stop myself. Here again I'm doing the limited palette approach I like so much - just a couple of colours - raw umber, paynes grey, prussian blue and ultra-marine blue - just a wee bit of burnt umber on his beard. Also - I thought it might be fun to revisit the Leprechaun house but show it from the other side.
Anyway - Happy Halloween and Peace be with you.

That little tree house looks perfect for a WOL -- When can I move in?
Getting there Craig. Still a few more paintings to do.
I'm sorry WOL but that's not up to me. You'll have to talk to the current occupant.
I like it. You really know how to make that limited palette sing!
Thanks Jim - but I think it's going to need a bit more colour in the central area - I can feel it lacking something.
That's a problem : where to stop before losing the freshness of the painting !
I see what you mean about the central area missing something but I think it goes very well with the sketchy feeling of the all ^^. In the other hand, I'm not very objective when it comes your paintings ! LOL
I truly love this house ! (I have to contact that Leprechaun first!! LOOL)
ps: sorry for the double post ^^'
Hi Sabine - No problem about the double post. After a long chat with the art director we both decided to leave the painting alone for the time being. There are going to be a lot of other things on the cover and so it may be a little soon to fix something we are not yet sure is broken. Thanks so much for your feedback - much appreciated.
