Recent Sketchbook - Woodland Elf

Some recent sketchbook activity. I like to start my work day, when possible, with some warm-up drawing and this elf picture is one of those. I don't normally finish them to this degree but somewhere along the line this one went from exercise to self expression - in other words I started to have fun with it. My scribbled warm-up became something I wanted to post here. Normally they end up in the recycle bin - not because I'm cavalier with my drawings but because in most cases they are loose scrawlings that serve no other purpose beyond a simple morning limber up.
More soon  :)

Larry your sketches are so enchanting, specially so of the elven and faerie folk. I'd really like to buy a book of those kinds of your sketches, even the simple and 'to be recycled' ones. You have a nuance that many an artist only strives for.

I'm a fan of all your work, but this one begs to be saved, worked up and framed. She's lovely.

Thomas - Thanks so much - definitely looking into getting a sketchbook done.

Thanks Kim - I hope I didn't give the impression that I'm trashing all my drawings - only the bad ones :)

Wonderful! Would that every morning warmup was like this.

Thanks Ben - if only :)

I wondered about your warming up. How long do you do this before you 'really' start your work day? I've tried to do this but sometimes my page just stays blank... No ideas to sketch or perhaps I'm pushing it a bit too much. Anyway, i am in love with your sketches so please publish a sketchbook... We need it ;-)

Iris - I usually warm up for an hour or so, sometimes less. I often draw from reference so I don't have to think about what to draw. I'm usually working on figures, or animals, or hands, or characters. If I see something cool in a magazine I'll save it or cut it out and draw it later. I have a pile of pictures that I draw from. This picture was started from reference and then I finished it from my imagination.
