Irish Witches

A bit more of the recent pencil work for the story I'll be starting shortly rooted in but not specific to Irish Folklore - a few more witch ideas - just because  :)

Really nice! I know you've got a thing for dreadlocks, but I thnk they would really suit witches.
The witches project may not be specific to irish folklore, though linked to it in some way, and I was wondering if you intended to somehow hint at their irish origin? Not like a big shamrock stuck behind an ear or anything so blatant, of course.

Jay - These sketches were done before I knew where exactly we were going with the story. Two of the legends we are working with at the moment are the Banshee and the Baohbhan Sith. Neither of these two characters are actually witches in the traditional sense. The story is still being worked, even as we speak. But I just can't help drawing witches and yes, I agree, some dreadlocks may be required.

Thanks Kim - I'm a little clairvoyant, you'll have to forgive me :)

The Banshee is flat-out spooky. My mother-in-law swears she heard it the night after somebody very close to her passed away suddenly. Gives me chills just thinking about it.
The Baohbhan Sith has an interesting name, I think. When pronounced correctly, it sounds almost identical to the word 'Banshee.' And the word 'sidhe' (irish faerie) is also pronounced like 'shee.'
I can't wait to see your renditions of these rather scary beings!

Jay - I recently watched a short little documentary on YouTube about the Irish Banshee - first hand accounts from local villagers - pretty creepy and very inspiring.

Oh, the one in the middle bottom with the wickedly gleeful eyes -great. That's a hard expression to draw.

Thanks Ben. That's one of my favourites too. Hopefully I can find a way to work that one, or something like it, into an illustration.
