Faerie Twins

This latest watercolour is the final illustration for my long running book project, Teeney O'Feeney King of the Leprechauns. The project was actually finished when it was decided that one more picture was required, and this is it. Here two Faeries are teaching a bird to sing. I was recently asked how long it takes me to finish a picture. This one took 3 days without rushing. That is not counting the time it took to do several colour roughs and the sketch work that lead up to the final composition. All in all it took about a week - a work week that is.

Wonderful, as usual. DO you ever share your palette colors? I love the natural, subtle colors in this.

Agreed, the colours are so well handled. The composition is fantastic too, kinda reminds me of Rien Poortvliet.

Once again you have captured another wonderful moment. I would love to know the names of the books you have illustrated. Magic job as always. xxx

Kim - Thanks so much. The colours are pretty simple which is why I think they may harmonize well together. The warm colours are all essentially Raw Umber and then Paynes Grey and Neutral Tint to cool it off and make shadows.
The greens are all Raw Umber mixed with Prussian Blue in varying amounts to get warm or cool colours. I was also using Ultramarine Blue to darken and cool off the Raw Umber. The purple is Winsor Violet. I hope that helps.

Thanks Jay - Poortvliet is a big favourite around here for all the obvious reasons.

Larry, Yes, that helps immensely. Thank you for your generous info.

Kim - You are entirely welcome. And to complete the thought - the faerie wings are white gouache, but that is the only opaque colour on the piece.
