I posted these pages a couple of days ago along with a third but then decided I didn't like the third one, so I yanked them all down and am now re-posting these 2 pages which I am still relatively happy with. More prep work for that which must not be named. Sorry for any mix up with the disappearing posts. Sometimes I just change my mind and decide I was too hasty in posting a piece or page that wasn't, for whatever reason, ready to go up.

I'm now into another book project which I of course cannot talk about. It is however going to be a lot of fun, perhaps the most fun. It's also going to be a lot of work. This sheet of characters may or may not have anything to do with that which must not be named.

Another of my new experiments with acrylic - 8 x 10 acrylic on masonite - I'm not taking too long with these - one day, see what happens, move on.

The Great Northern Pine Troll

This piece is a little different for me in that it's done in acrylic. I've been wanting to transition away from the gouache and or watercolour that I've been using steadily now for the last 10 years or so. Gouache is tricky at the best of times and although I have become somewhat used to it I find myself still struggling against it's limitations. What I'm really looking forward to now is working larger - although this one is 8 x 10. I'm hoping to get a bit more ambitious in the summer when I anticipate my next break. Until then I'll keep up these little experiments and try to get a feel for this new (to me) paint.

Grandmother Troll

It was always my intention to get back to this one and finish it - soon I hope. Now that it's been a few months since I put it away it looks a bit better to me, so I guess I'll call this a work in progress - for now anyway, until I finally get back to it.

Magic Card - Weird Old Auntie

Another one from the Lorwyn set I worked on. This was one of my favourite cards. I was actually pretty surprised that they let me put all those weird looking kids in - fun !

Jeffrey Jones is Disappearing

I just noticed that one of my favourite artist's website is down. Jeff Jones is now harder than ever to track on line. This is very heart breaking. I managed to scare up a couple of images but they are now few and far between and seemingly becoming more rare by the day. I have always loved this picture, it seems kind of appropriate some how. Jeff Jones, wherever you are, I can't wait to see something new from you. Cheers. - and to be clear, this is a painting by Jeff Jones, not me. I'm a fan of his work and felt the need to post an ode to him :)

Finally finished the book project I've been on since January - hoping I might have time for a personal piece before the next one gets going - until then, some more morning pages.

More messing around. These were both morning warm up pages. One from yesterday and one from today. I'm finally coming into the home stretch of the book project I've been on since January.
In another couple of days I'll wrap it up - whew !

Sketchbook - Poses

Just messing around with poses - seeing if anything sparks an idea. You never know what simple pose will lead to a picture concept - keep drawing, keep dreaming. Simple is best for this kind of thing, I find anyway - brown pencil with gel pen outline.
