Graphic Novel Page - The Raven Witch

I have been negotiating back and forth for the last little while with Lombard Editions in Belgium. They do graphic novels such as Tin Tin and many others. One of the editors there thought it might be interesting if I did a graphic novel for them, but in order to properly pitch the idea to the committee, he wanted me to do a sample page. We had been talking about a story with witches so I worked up this page with my old favourite, the Raven Witch.

It is not easy to distill down everything you want to do with a story into one page. I had many ideas to sort through and had to make some choices for better or worse. Below are some of the many roughs I did looking for the best way to tell this little bit of atmospheric mood setting. Will anything come of this - who knows ? For now fingers are crossed.

I'm glad you stopped by. More soon.

Absolutely, stunningly amazing, Larry. I've often wondered why this very thing, fully illustrated faerie and myth comics, haven't been produced more in the past.
I really hope it goes ahead, this would be a book to cherish!

Thanks Jay. I seem to recall having seen this sort of thing done before but the memories are vague and I couldn't tell you who did them. I would really love to take on a graphic novel. It would be an absolute ton of work though.

It a beautiful project, Larry. I really hope you'll pursue it. I can imagine it would take a long time, but it would be a masterpiece and worth the wait for us readers. :)

Thank-you so much Astera. Only time will tell. :)

I can't imagine a publishing committee that wouldn't immediately bring you into the fold. If I had the means you would be deep into the project already. Darkness is good for a graphic novel, but I hope you also get a chance to bring elfin beauty into atmospheric light. I'm rooting for you!

Thanks Thomas. There is no one else I would rather work with. When I sent this page into them I also sent something bright and sun lit to counter the gloom of this image. I want to explore the shadow and the light.

I love the look here–hopefully it becomes a reality!

Yes, Yes! Keeping fingers crossed and rubbing good luck charms for a thumbs up. Am I understanding that this GN would be set in Gwelf? and if it is well received, perhaps another story featuring the denizens (and I use the word advisedly, LOL!) of scenic Gwelf?

Stunning work, Larry. I am torn. I want to see more but oh my lordie.. The monumental amount of work ahead!! Especially if you maintain this standard!!

Seth - thank-you. :)

WOL - This will not be a Gwelf story. I hope one day to do a travelers guide to Gwelf but for the time being it will have to wait. However this blog will continue to visit Gwelf on a regular basis.

Andy - I want to tell the story and will do what needs to be done to make that happen. I have been advised by comics veterans that one needn't go all out on every panel or every page to properly tell a story. A band playing a concert will vary the tempo, volume and length of the songs to create a full experience. This is what I will have to do.

I think that we Larry MacDougall fans should start a petition for this project to be given the green light. Who's with me!?!

Jay, if such a thing works with editors and committees, I'm on board for that. But who knows what works with editors and committees...
