Dreaming of Spring - Sketchbook

I don't think I have ever been so desperate for Spring to arrive as I was this year. Winter just seemed to hang on and hang on. Even when the calendar said it was Spring, Winter kept stabbing at us from the grave with snow flurries, sleet, wind and frost. We are definitely into Spring now and things are beginning to warm up, but the spring I'm dreaming of is the warm golden spring of mid May, not the cool and damp spring of early April. These sketchbook doodles are from this past winter when the balmy, sun lit days of May were front and center in my thoughts.

  1. This winter really got me down too. I used to like weather of all kinds, but lately the thought of a perfect day in May is what keeps me going.

Your sketches of faerie continue to be my favoritist graphics of modern times!

  2. Thanks Thomas !
We've got little green things coming up all over the place and it's supposed to get warmer this weekend. I'm hopeful. I think another snow fall now would just about finish me off. :)

  3. I love to sketch in ball point pen as well. You can get some darks and lights that you can't with plain ink.Love your work, I saw a few of your illustrations in The fantasy illustrators technique book and then I recognized the work on Etsy.
Looks like your from Canada, I'm up in Huntsville and yes the winter kept going and going. Today was nice and lifted the spirits!

  4. Hi Catherine - Huntsville is one of my favourite destinations. I love Muskoka and realize now that much of my inspiration comes from the childhood trips we used to take into cottage country.

  7. Good to hear you know Huntsville! Yes the landscape is very inspiring up here, lots of artists up here. We finally have a little gallery downtown where we can show our work.
    Are you from Southern Ontario?

  8. Catherine - Yes, Southern Ontario. I was born and raised in Hamilton and now live next door in Stoney Creek. As kids we went "up north" every summer to camp or cottage. The land up there is firmly established in my imagination.
