Drawing Children

I have a project coming up later this spring that is going to involve lots of kid drawing. The above posted drawings are from a recent morning warm-up session . These were drawn from reference with an emphasis, hopefully, of capturing the character and spirit of the kids while trying also to stay loose and draw with a light touch - a tall order. That's why these are warm-ups.  :)

  1. I have 11 grandchildren you're welcome to borrow for reference.

  2. Ohh, getting children down is a challenge. If you're drawing them from life you have to be super fast and just get a gesture down.

These are great. You're sketches are always an inspiration.

  4. Ben - You are so right. The hardest part for me is getting them to look the proper age. A 6 year old is different from a 9 year old but those differences are so subtle - it's a challenge !

  6. Yeah, and their proportions are in such a state of flux.

By the way, I mentioned your art in my blog -how I found it early on in my career and how it really motivated me.
