The Jack

The Jack is for Jack O' Lantern of course. Inspired I'm sure by our recent foray through the Hallowe'en season which I love so much. The leafless trees, the early sunsets, the windy nights - autumn !
This painting is small, really small. It's about 4 by 7 inches - gouache. Just a quickie for my own amusement.

A Bit More Sketchbook

Some more pencil work.

More Sketchbook

I've got something new starting up soon that I shouldn't really talk about. But here are some pages anyway - just getting ready, warming up, concepting and getting a head start. It will of course have to do with super-natural and or mythical characters - but that's all I can say.

French Dragons

This project was for a french publisher. It's to be a book about dragons. They invited me to participate and I agreed even though I'm not really one for drawing dragons. I thought I would be clever and pose some figures around a dragon skull and avoid actually having to draw the dragon itself. This idea didn't fly with them for obvious reasons but I enjoyed making the drawings and concepting it out.

The Secret History of Giants

This picture is from the recently published Secret History of Giants book from Templar. I worked on this project through last Christmas and am quite happy to see it out now - in a book shop near you ;). This illustration seems to be one of the more popular ones as it keeps turning up in the promotions. It depicts the giant wearing all his artifacts and doodads.

Unfinished

I drove this painting into the ditch. It happens - it started feeling wrong at about the half-way point. I decided not to put myself through the pain of trying to fix it. However I was kind of happy with these characters so I scanned them anyway. One of these days I hope to get back to it when I'm feeling a bit better about it. Until then .....

Faerie Sketchbook

Some random faerie doodles in coloured pencil. Just for fun and of course with the ever present hope that a new and possibly "good" idea might be achieved.

Teeney

Another one from a project I'm presently working on - Teeney O'Feeney King of the Leprechauns.

More Sketchbook

Just generating ideas and trying to stay loose - drawing, drawing, drawing ......

Sketchbook

Yet more recent pencil work for several on-going projects.

More Pencil Work - Goblins

This project is going to be a lot of fun - will need to do more drawing for sure.

Pencil Work - Goblins

Some more doodles and roughs for a new project. This is of course my favourite part of any project - the thinking and dreaming part.

Rosina

This is another one for the book I'm working on called Teeney O'Feeney King of the Leprechauns. This is Rosina the Faerie - watercolour and gouache on hot press paper.

Running Rabbit and Fox Radio

A couple of small colour pieces done for fun. These are winter paintings - dreaming of spring with three feet of snow on the ground.

Teeney O'Feeney Sketchbook

Some sketchbook work from a project I'm presently on, illustrating the poem Teeney O'Feeney King of the Leprechauns by James Tague. We're touching on all manner of faerie folk in this piece.
